About

Fire Station No. 3, located on the city’s north side, was originally designed with future expansion in mind when it opened in 2013. As West Lafayette continues to grow -particularly north of Kalberer Road – our emergency response infrastructure must grow with it.

This project expands Fire Station No. 3’s capacity to support new development, prioritize firefighter health and safety, and strengthen our ability to serve residents in the northern third of the city.

Health & Safety First

One of the most important drivers of this project is modern firefighter safety.
Protocols and best practices have evolved significantly over the past decade.

These upgrades are designed to protect our firefighters and members of the public who may visit Station No.3 for community outreach or during an emergency.

  • The City applied for a SAFER Grant to support 12 new firefighter positions
    • This program helps local fire departments comply with staffing and safety standards
    • West Lafayette successfully used a SAFER Grant for Fire Station No. 3’s initial launch in 2013
    • Updated 9/26/2025: The City has officially received the $2.5 million SAFER Grant to fund 12 new firefighter positions
