Planning to join us in person? Want to get a head start? Can’t attend but still want to provide input? This page is for you.
On October 30, 2025, we’ll host a public input session for the Fire Station No. 3 Expansion project. The boards below preview what will be on display that evening – including proposed designs, traffic impacts, environmental considerations, and the rezoning rationale.
If you’re attending: Use this as a preview so you’re ready to ask questions and give feedback.
If you can’t attend: You can still review the information and send us your thoughts.
Ways to provide feedback:
- Email: development@westlafayette.in.gov
- Call: 765.775.5160
- Or submit through our online feedback form (the feedback form has closed)
After the session, we’ll post a summary of community feedback and next steps right here on WLMoves.
You can share your impressions on one or all categories. As you review each category, please keep the following in mind:

Sustainability/LEED
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) provides a framework for designing, constructing, and operating buildings in an environmentally responsible manner. It evaluates various aspects of a building’s sustainability, including energy efficiency, water conservation, indoor environmental quality, and material selection. The certification process is based on a point system, where buildings earn points for meeting specific sustainability criteria.
Share your impression on the following:
- How well the building’s energy efficiency strategies – such as tight building envelope design, LED lighting, and high-efficiency HVAC systems – align with the City’s long-term goals for environmental responsibility.
- The benefits of using recycled materials and low-maintenance systems to reduce operational costs and environmental impact.
- The plan to reduce light pollution, stormwater runoff, and other site-level environmental effects.
- How these strategies reflect the kind of future-focused investment you want to see in your community’s public facilities.

Wellness and Mental Health
Share your impression on the following:
- The layout of decompression zones, fitness spaces, and the sleep alerting system designed to reduce physiological stress.
- How the design supports both physical and mental resilience – through access to exercise, hydration stations, quiet recovery areas, and improved lighting and ventilation.
- The gear decontamination process, including separate zones for equipment washing, storage, and showering, and how these may enhance firefighter safety and station cleanliness.
- The inclusion of hands-on training spaces in the apparatus bay, and whether these amenities support the preparedness, safety, and long-term well-being of our emergency responders.

Neighborhood Design Integration
Share your impression on the following:
- The drive-through apparatus bays and how they might improve traffic safety, reduce response times, and enhance firefighter workflow.
- The site layout, including how access points, parking, and landscape buffers contribute to the overall character and functionality of the station in a residential setting.

Inclusivity
Share your impression on the following:
- The gender-neutral sleeping and restroom layout shown in the design, including how well the individual, private sleeping quarters support all personnel regardless of gender identity.
- The inclusion of decompression and quiet rooms, and whether these features feel like meaningful steps toward firefighter wellness.
- The environmental design strategies – such as sound-reducing materials and natural lighting – and how they may help mitigate sleep deprivation.
- How the design supports employee retention and recruitment for a modern, inclusive fire department.
- Accessibility and inclusivity of public-facing areas, including gender-neutral and ADA-compliant restrooms.

Why Now & Rezoning
Share your impression on the following:
- Do the safety improvements, added capacity, and response needs reflect what you see happening in the northern part of the city?
- The proposal to rezone the property from R1 (single-family residential) to align with adjacent Neighborhood Business and I3-zoned parcels.
- Whether you feel the station’s updated design will continue to reflect the character of the surrounding area.
- How well the City is balancing public safety needs with neighborhood compatibility and long-term planning goals.

Construction Operation
Share your impression on the following:
- The proposed construction timeline and how it aligns with the city’s broader planning efforts.
- The site logistics plan – including construction fencing, delivery routes, and parking areas – and whether you foresee any specific concerns or suggestions about traffic flow or neighborhood access during construction.
- How well the plan communicates safety, visibility, and site management during construction, and whether there are additional considerations you’d like the team to keep in mind during this phase.
