SK hynix Project Updates

Note: The City of West Lafayette is still working to build out the Sk hynix Project Tracker.  In the meantime, we will post updates here.

SK hynix Project Neuron Site Activities

What’s Happening

As part of its comprehensive environmental process, SK hynix will be conducting two surveys at our new site over the next few weeks. These activities are required by federal, state, and local regulations to ensure we protect both historical and environmental resources.

Historical and Archaeological Survey

Why we’re doing this: We need to check for any historical artifacts or archaeological sites before construction begins, following Indiana state guidelines for historic preservation.

What you might see:

Field Preparation

  • The field will be tilled to make the ground surface easier to examine. This work may begin this week, weather permitting.

Site Investigation

  • Survey teams will walk across the property in a grid pattern to look for any artifacts on the surface
  • If any artifacts are found, additional testing may be needed

Environmental and Wildlife Survey

At the same time, we’ll also be:

  • Conducting desktop research on local wildlife and plant species
  • Checking for any threatened or endangered species in the area
  • Assessing any wetlands and natural habitats present to ensure they’re protected

What This Means for You

These surveys are standard environmental protection measures that help SK hynix build responsibly while preserving West Lafayette’s history and natural resources. These activities will be contained to the site and should have minimal to no impact on the community.

Community interest in the SK hynix development is high, and the City of West Lafayette remains committed to ensuring residents have clear, accessible pathways to information and engagement throughout the life of this project.

In the coming month, this site will be updated to feature a centralized, detailed tracking system encompassing both City-led infrastructure initiatives and SK hynix-specific development activity. This resource will include:

  • City infrastructure projects accelerated due to anticipated population and economic growth. These projects were already identified in long-term planning but are now being expedited to meet the scale and timing of development associated with SK hynix.
  • Public meeting schedules and opportunities for public input.
  • SK hynix construction and regulatory milestones, including major planning benchmarks, permit applications and approvals, and other formal reviews.

Our goal is to provide a clear, step-by-step view of the SK hynix process—what needs to happen, when it will occur, and how residents can engage at each stage.

WLMoves.com will be updated regularly as new information becomes available. We appreciate your patience as we build a transparent and reliable tool to help the public stay informed with clarity and confidence.

Pre-construction Road Work

The City of West Lafayette is planning a new east-west connector road north of Kalberer Road to enhance mobility, support future development, and improve safety in our growing community.

West Lafayette is wrapping up a major project that started in 2016 to keep the Wabash River cleaner and healthier. This final phase of the Combined Sewage Overflow (CSO) project will expand our water treatment system to handle more wet weather, preventing overflows of untreated water into the river during heavy rain.

With West Lafayette's population booming over the past decade, city officials are exploring a transformative upgrade to public safety services. A feasibility study is underway to consolidate Fire Station #2 and fire administration into a modern, centralized campus along West Navajo Street, next to the police station. This proposed move addresses the outdated condition of the current Fire Station #2 and the growing needs of both fire and police services, aiming to enhance safety and efficiency for the community.

The Salisbury Street/Grant Street Redevelopment Project aims to connect our trail systems from north to south, improving access and safety for multimodal travelers. The project's second phase, which includes Grant Street reconstruction, will begin in March 2023.

Soldiers Home Road Project Update

As part of the 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan, the Soldiers Home Road Reconstruction project seeks to address continuing community growth in the northern areas of West Lafayette. This project will include road reconstruction, a new multi-use trail, and new sidewalks. The multi-use trail will connect the Nighthawk, Sagamore Parkway, and Happy Hollow Trails to the Northwest Greenway Trail.

Street Light

The City of West Lafayette has launched a Street Lighting Initiative to improve lighting conditions along Indian Trail Drive in the Wabash Shores Neighborhood. This effort is part of a broader citywide goal to improve pedestrian safety and unify lighting styles across our community.
