PROJECT OVERVIEW
The City of West Lafayette has launched a Street Lighting Initiative focused on improving safety and consistency in lighting along Robinson Street, located in the New Chauncey Neighborhood and within the local historic district. This effort is part of a larger goal to unify lighting styles across the city while addressing safety concerns identified through a recent traffic safety audit.
In 2023, a fatal accident occurred on Robinson Street, prompting an investigation by the Tippecanoe County Area Plan Commission. This resulted in the Robinson Street Road Safety Audit Report, which recommended several improvements, including the installation of new streetlights, particularly at intersections. You can view the full report here: 2024 Robinson St Road Safety Audit
The City of West Lafayette Engineering Department has assessed street lighting and found that additional lighting may be warranted.
The project was funded through the 2024 West Lafayette Redevelopment Commission Spending Plan.
All lighting types considered for installation will be reviewed by the West Lafayette Historic Preservation Commission to ensure alignment with local historic standards.
WHY THIS MATTERS
We are considering three different lighting options and want to hear from residents of Robinson Street and nearby community members who will be directly impacted by this change.
Your input will help determine the final amount and style of lighting to be installed.
Survey Closes: August 29, 2025 at 4:30 p.m.
The lighting option selected will be posted here. Check back for project updates or contact the City of West Lafayette Development Department at development@westlafayette.in.gov | 765.775.5160
