Exciting Features of the New Public Safety Center

We are building a modern, sustainable Public Safety Center that prioritizes both public and employee well-being. Some of the key features under consideration include:

  • A Newly Designed Fire Station: The new fire station will mitigate carcinogen exposure for our firefighters, ensuring a healthier workplace.
  • Gender-Neutral Bathrooms and Locker Rooms: We’re designing spaces that will accommodate a diverse workforce, no matter the gender identity, promoting inclusivity and future-proofing our facilities.
  • Mental Health-Focused Spaces: Natural light, open patios, and intentional gathering areas will be built to support mental health and wellness for our staff and community.
  • Social Work Rooms: Additional rooms will be included to create a safe space for public meetings with social workers, focused on social services and crisis response, like our own Devon Moore, who will play a key role in supporting community members.
  • Sustainability: We’re reusing the existing police department structure to reduce waste, and we’re integrating solar arrays, the potential for gray water capture systems, and other energy-efficient installations to minimize environmental impact.

We are committed to creating a workplace of choice that attracts top talent by prioritizing safety, comfort, and inclusivity. We want the West Lafayette Public Safety Center to be a place where employees are excited to work, and community members feel welcomed and supported.
