Thanks to the support from the West Lafayette Redevelopment Commission, we’ve finalized designs and construction costs for the Cason Family Park as of May 2023 and are in the construction process. This upcoming park, situated on Cumberland Avenue close to US 231, spans nearly 30 acres. It’s vibrant green space will boast nature-centric playgrounds, scenic trails, captivating water features, and public amenities, including the beautifully restored Morris Schoolhouse. We’re excited to see what this park can bring to our community as it begins to spring to life!
Recreational Haven
The park will feature a 4.2-acre pond offering a serene getaway.
Exploration Trails
Nearly 3 miles of both paved and unpaved trails will weave through the park, perfect for walkers, runners, and cyclists seeking nature’s tranquility.
Innovative Play Areas
Five distinct playgrounds, including Coneflower Corner, The Birds Nest, and Tree Top Tower.

Discover the charm of the Historic Morris Schoolhouse at Cason Family Park, a jewel of West Lafayette history. Originally built in 1879, this quaint educational hub flourished for nearly four decades, playing a pivotal role in the community’s development. In 1964, Lynn Cason took up the mantle as its dedicated caretaker, preserving its legacy.
In a heartfelt effort to save the schoolhouse from being lost to time, Lynn Cason orchestrated the relocation of this historic building to ensure its preservation. The community came together to help make it happen. This collaborative endeavor brought the building to its new home within what is becoming Cason Family Park, where it will continue to inspire through planned educational programming.
We’re thrilled to share that Cason Family Park, along with the revered Morris Schoolhouse, will commence construction in the summer of 2023. The park recently expanded to include an additional 13.9 acres purchased in 2021, effectively doubling its size.
The Restored Morris Schoolhouse will serve as an engaging outdoor classroom, ensuring that its rich history continues to educate and inspire our community for generations to come. Join us in making history at Cason Family Park, where the past and future connect in vibrant, educational play!
